A Prayer

A Prayer

Floating,
muffled sound,
grey darkness,
through soft shut lids.
Warm body,
cold thoughts.
so cold they burn-
as they roll over me;
like water on a
wave washed shore.
I am laid bare.
Warm body,
cold mind,
oh;
that the body were cold?

  1. I'm not too sure how to comment on this poem John except to say that I know what it feels like to not want to wake up in the morning, although this was for a different reason to yours.

    You give your time freely to support local poets and people who sufferer through pain and I'm sure I can speak for others when I say this is much appreciated.

    1. Karen, Thank you for your comment and the kind thoughts behind it. I guess this is all part of trying to understand my own feelings and also demonstrate that it is better to communicate then to lock yourself away.
      In one way my support of others is selfish for as people often say you reap what you sow. I have a lot of E-friends and closer personal friends who have helped me over the last few years. Surprisingly many of them have told me that poems like this have helped them move on.

  2. Another good poem John, but sad. Sad to know that you must be on a low.

    By the sound of it, you have so many people you help. It's a great feeling when some of your words reach someone and make a difference to them. It sounds like you are having a tough time just now....I hope you can find a way through. Sometimes, we need something to give us a lift - I hope you can find that something.

    Take care, John

    1. Liz, Thank you. You are right about the 'great feeling when some of your words reach someone and make a difference'. This is exactly what your comment has just done to me, so once again a big thank you. I am glad you liked the poem, I'm working on a happier one, but need a small mood adjustment first;-)

    2. It will get better. Trust me....I'm a doctor (I'm not really, but I've been in that surgery so much, that I think I should be on a salary!)

      Hope your mood lifts soon

    1. Thank you, I know some of my poems are hard to read. The thing to remember is that I am talking / writing about difficult and very real issues that affect many of my readers. I believe people who are in my situation understand what I am saying and might take some comfort in knowing that they are not alone. As for me knowing that people like You, Karen and Liz are thinking or praying for me really helps.
      I guess the other thing is a lesson I learnt in the Army, when the troops stop winging - you have a problem.
